New Head Spa

Cupping

Cupping is added to a massage rather than booked instead of one. Warm glass cups are set on the back and drawn slowly along the muscle, so the tissue lifts instead of being pressed down. It is a strange sensation the first time and a familiar one after that. Round marks are normal and fade over a few days; we say so before we start, in case you would rather not have them this week.

What cupping is good for

Add it when the massage alone has not been enough in one particular place, usually the upper back or the shoulders. It is the one treatment here that leaves a visible trace, and that is worth planning around: the round marks last a few days, so it is better booked at the start of a week than before a wedding. At $25 on a session you have already chosen, it is a small decision rather than a separate appointment.

Who it suits

  • Backs and shoulders that have been carrying something for a while.
  • Anyone curious about it who does not mind the marks.
  • Anyone who wants a massage to go a little deeper in one place.
  • Not this week, if you have something to wear a low back to.

Common questions

Will it leave marks?
Usually, yes. Round marks are normal and fade over a few days. We say so before we start, in case you would rather not have them this week.
Can I book cupping on its own?
No. It is added to a massage rather than booked instead of one.
Does it hurt?
It pulls rather than presses, which is the part people do not expect. Strange the first time and familiar after that. Say so and the cups come off.
How do I add it?
Tell us when you book, or on the day when you arrive. It is $25 on top of the session.
